Wood avens has been used since the Middle Ages for its aroma, similar to that of cloves, and for its phytotherapeutic properties. The infusion made from this plant's roots has a hemostatic action, promoting blood clotting by stimulating the protein precipitation process. Moreover, active compounds found in Wood avens reduce the permeability of the cellular membranes and inhibit mucus secretion, thus increasing stool consistency. Used externally, the decoction from this plant's roots and rhizomes have antiseptic (due to the eugenol resulted from the decomposition of geoside), astringent, vulnerary and soothing properties.

Properties:	antiseptic, soothing, vulnerary, hemostatic, and astringent.
Dosage and Use:	Internally: as an infusion, steep 1 teaspoon of Wood avens rhizomes and roots in 200 ml boiling water. Drink 3 times a day, after meals. Externally: as a decoction from 1-2 teaspoons of Wood avens rhizomes and roots in 300 ml boiling water. Boil for 10 minutes, then use as a gargle for keeping the oral cavity healthy, and as local lavages for wounds.
